Guidance from a Child Psychologist: What to Say to Upset Kids

Dealing with your kid’s anger can be really hard. After talking with a psychologist for kids, I’ve learned that anger isn’t just being mad. It’s actually a sign, like when they feel hurt or not treated right.

Remember the last time you were angry? You felt it was okay then, right?

But, we all need to learn how to show anger in a better way. Here are three things I believe parents should tell their angry kids:

“I understand why this is making you mad, and I want to help.”

Anger might not seem a big deal to us adults, but for kids, it can be really huge and feel unfair. Letting them know you understand and are there for them is so important. This kind of support helps them handle their feelings better.
