This summer in Osaka, Japan, we spent time with a 95-year-old grandpa, a retired heart doctor. He lives life in a fun and community-focused way.
He’s a great example of how to grow old with happiness and energy.
Here are his eight main tips for a long and happy life:
Morning Walks:
He and his wife wake up early, starting their walk at 5 a.m. They walk for 30 minutes to an hour, aiming for at least 7,000 steps.
Their paths change, sometimes going through hills near Minoh Falls or around Ikeda, starting their day with excitement.
Purposeful Exercise:
After walking, he does a special workout. This includes stretching, building muscles, and balance exercises.
He changes it every day to fit what he can do, staying active but not too tired.
Social Media Connection:
After working out, he uses Facebook and Instagram to keep in touch with family and friends.
He knows being alone can make older people feel lonely, so he uses the internet to stay close with his friends around the world, including grandkids in the U.S.
