It’s challenging to handle a kid’s anger. Listening to the advice of a child psychologist, I’ve come to see that anger is more than just a negative, disruptive emotion.
Emotions are like messages, and anger is a big one. It shows us something’s wrong, like feeling hurt or unfairly treated.
Think about the last time you were angry. It probably felt right then.
But we need to learn to express anger in a healthy way. Here are three phrases I think parents should use when their kids are angry or upset:
“I see you’re angry about this, and I can understand why.”
To adults, anger might not seem like a big deal, but for kids, it can feel huge and really unfair.
They need to know that we understand their feelings. This can help them manage their emotions better.
